Sacred Heart School Westport

History

Sacred Heart School Westport (SHS) was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1925 to provide a Christian education inspired by the vision of Catherine McAuley, for the young women of the town and the surrounding area. The school has been part of the town for almost 100 years and is constantly enriched by its interaction with the local community of Westport and the surrounding area. SHS was a boarding and day school until 1970. In 2007 the trusteeship of the school was passed to CEIST (Catholic Education and Irish Schools Trust). In February 2022 Sacred Heart School was officially granted a new build and work is ongoing to finalise the design of this exciting new development for SHS Westport.
