TY Sacred Heart School & Rice College to perform the Musical-Matilda
It is that time of year again, when Rice College boys join forces with the Sacred Heart School girls to produce the annual TY musical!
You have read the book, you have seen the movie! Now you are going to be treated to the live show performed by our extremely talented students.
Matilda, The Musical, written by Dennis Kelly, with music by Tim Minchin is based on the accomplished and best-selling book Matilda written by Roald Dahl.
This Musical delight tells the story of Matilda (Hannah O’Toole) a very intelligent and talented young girl from a dysfunctional family. They are a very arrogant, careless family. Mr. Wormwood (Danny Cannon) owns a car shop which he runs poorly and scams people with old, run-down cars. Mrs. Wormwood (Emma Barrett) loves to dance and is thrilled by everything her husband does. Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood have one thing in common, they dont take any notice of what Matilda does. They even forgot to enroll her into school!
Matilda found from an early age that she was very fond of reading, and she was a good reader. She started to make trips to the library where her reading was encouraged by the help of the local librarian, Mrs. Phelps (Hannah Thornton). She eventually joins the local school where she encounters the hateful and peculiar headmistress Ms. Trunchbull (Annie McGreevy). Her teacher is Ms. Honey (Ailbhe Gavin) a kindhearted, jolly spirit who sees how gifted and ahead of her years Matilda is.
Matilda sees Ms. Honey as a parental figure and enjoys school she finds it an escape from her home life even though she still must deal with the terrifying headmistress. She makes friends in the school like Lavendar (Chloe Chambers) and Bruce (Cathal Guilfoyle) who get into a lot of mischief.
The performance will be staged in the Sacred Heart School Gym, beginning at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 17th January, with shows on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th January also.
