Katie Bourke from Adaptable Solutions completed a workshop with our TY students to increase their knowledge and understanding of disability. Through this practical workshop, Katie encouraged the students to think differently, as attitudes to disability can be thought of in terms of “us and them”. The girls’ were informed of the needs of those with disabilities and the fact that disability is learning to do every-day tasks in a non-traditional way.
Barriers and obstacles faced by those with a disability on a daily basis and the skill-set required to overcome them were highlighted in the workshop. The activities also placed emphasis on what the girls can do in order to be advocates for disability equality in society.
