School closure
An announcement was made this morning by the Taoiseach Leo
Varadkar TD of the closure of schools, pre-schools and further and higher
education settings, for a period until 29 March 2020, to support efforts to
contain the spread of Covid-19. This will take effect from 6pm this evening,
Thursday 12 March. This is in line with the advice of the National Public
Health Emergency Team. Please see the link below for more information. |
Traffic management issues
Parents/Guardians – given the single vehicular entrance to the school, parents are requested not to drive into the school grounds in the morning to drop off students unless it is absolutely essential to do so. Cars exiting the school in the morning are causing significant traffic delays on the main Castlebar road. We would greatly appreciate your co-operation with this. School Management |
Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new respiratory illness. It has not previously been seen in humans. Symptoms: It can take up to 14 days for the symptoms of coronavirus to appear. These symptoms may include:
The Covid-19 affected regions are at present China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and 4 provinces in Northern Italy – Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia Romagna and Piedmont. A group of students and several teachers were in the north of Italy on a skiing trip The ski resort was not in one of the affected provinces. We are following the advice of the HSE and Public Health: If any students have travelled to the affected regions in the last 14 days and have the following symptoms – cough, shortness of breath, or fever then you should self-isolate and phone your GP. Anyone who has travelled from the affected regions and has no symptoms should visit www.hse.ie/eng/ for advice. If you are not presenting with any symptoms, then go about your normal daily life as usual. The most important action that we can take to protect ourselves from Covid-19 is regular hand washing and good respiratory hygiene which essentially means covering your cough and sneeze. We are putting up some posters in the bathrooms and in the public areas of the school in relation to respiratory hygiene and hand washing and strongly advise all students and staff to follow these practices. Please see latest advice from the Department of Education and Skills: Further information can be obtained on: https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/ |
